Limited-Control Predicates In Western Austronesia: Stative, Dynamic, Or None Of The Above?

چکیده

In many western Austronesian languages, the fact that an agentive argument lacks full control is morphologically marked on verb. The formatives used for this purpose are often also found stative predicates, and it has been suggested limited-control predicates stative-like in they denote result state of a given eventuality. Here we argue limitedcontrol differ from both dynamic constitute category their own. Limited-control marking primarily pertains to agentivity not aspectual structure, and, importantly, only when at issue. With respect frequent overlaps with morphology, historically speaking, have common origin. While current investigation does include account historical developments leading two synchronically separate categories (stative limitedcontrol), provide evidence hypothesis perception had major role play development.
